1. Layout beam placement.

2. Remove drywall at beam placement on side walls.

3. Install nailers on ceiling and side walls, one on each end and every 4 to 6 feet. (note: may need to do blocking in attic to footer nailers)

4. Cut beam to size to stab on one side. Stab other side and center.

5. Fasten beams to nailers with trim screws.

6. Plug screw holes with wood plugs.

7. Float drywall to beams with caulk or drywall mud.

8. Caulk beams at ceiling if needed.

9. Touch up paint.

 

Note: Avoid using trim moulding if possible.

 

New Construction

 

1. Install drywall on ceiling.

2. Install blocking.

3. Install beams.

4. Install drywall on side walls.

Nailers to be ripped out of 1 1/2" framing materials to width

of interior of beam.
